Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is a highly picturesque hill station nestled deep within Sri Lanka's central highlands at an altitude of nearly 1,900 meters. Due to its striking resemblance to a quaint British countryside village and its unusually cool, misty climate, it is affectionately known worldwide as "Little England." Here, you can take guided tours to witness the intricate process of tea manufacturing, from the plucking of the delicate leaves to the final brewing of a perfect cup.

• Navigation and Tips: The most spectacular, memorable way to reach Nuwara Eliya is by taking the famous scenic train ride from Kandy or Ella, disembarking at the nearby Nanu Oya railway station. Because of its high elevation, the climate here is drastically colder than the rest of the island, with nighttime temperatures frequently dropping down to 10 Celsius (50 Fahrenheit). Packing warm layers, a fleece jacket, and a light raincoat or umbrella is absolutely essential to stay comfortable while exploring the misty landscapes.
